What we install

Composite fencing styles & colours across Cardiff

We supply and install composite fencing panels and posts as a complete service — everything sourced, delivered and fitted by us. No part-supplies, no customer-sourced panels, no coordination headaches. Here are the main options we install across Cardiff.

Grey Composite Fencing

Mid grey composite panels are our most popular colour across Cardiff — particularly in Pontcanna, Canton, Roath and the Vale. The cooler tone sits naturally with rendered and brick properties and holds its colour well over time. Available in a range of heights to suit your boundary requirements.

Anthracite Grey Composite Fencing

A deeper charcoal tone that makes a strong statement on contemporary Cardiff properties — particularly effective alongside aluminium posts and matching composite or metal gates. Increasingly popular on newer builds across the Vale of Glamorgan and Penarth.

Wood-Effect Composite Fencing

Composite panels that replicate the grain and warmth of natural timber without any of the maintenance. Popular for period properties and gardens where a cooler grey tone would feel at odds with the character of the house. Available in oak-effect and warm brown tones.

Composite Fencing to Replace Existing Posts

If your existing concrete posts are structurally sound, some composite panel ranges can be fitted directly into the existing post channels without replacement. We assess post condition at the site visit and advise honestly on whether re-use is viable or whether new posts would give a better result.

Composite Fencing Explained

Composite fencing in the UK is a type of fencing made from a combination of recycled plastics and hardwood fibers. This material is highly durable, low maintenance, and environmentally friendly. It is a popular choice for fencing in the UK due to its long lifespan, resistance to rot and insect infestation, and range of design options. Composite fencing can be used for residential or commercial properties and is available in a range of styles, colors, and sizes.

Composite fencing vs wood/PVC

Whilst wooden fencing remains the most popular fence panel for residential properties there has been tremendous growth in alternative fencing materials other than wood. The main ones being plastic, composite and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), which essentially are very similar to each other and we can access a number of these from merchants in the Cardiff area but we are aware than many companies manufacturing these fence panels will have these available to order online.

We handle all sourcing and supply as part of our installation service — you don't need to order panels separately or calculate quantities. We measure up, source the correct materials and fit everything as a complete job.

Some composite and PVC fencing panels are made to replicate wood but has the benefit of requiring no treatment with many coming with guarantees of twenty years. There are also some which can simply be fitted into existing concrete posts so if your wooden panels need replacing but your posts do not, then some composites would be ideal.

Plastic is a generic term encapsulating all types of plastics but the main specific plastic used for many outdoor products is PVC. It it hard and robust, so ideal for fencing but much lighter in weight than wooden fencing - especially those that are hollow with internal webbing to give extra strength and rigidity. Once fitted you'll barely need to do anything with them for the next decade or two!

Recent installation

Anthracite composite fencing with aluminium posts — Pontcanna, Cardiff

This recent Pontcanna installation shows anthracite grey composite panels fitted with matching powder-coated aluminium posts — one of the most popular combinations we install across Cardiff. The aluminium post system gives a cleaner, more contemporary finish than concrete posts and is the preferred specification for most composite fencing jobs we carry out.

We source composite fencing panels and post systems from established suppliers including Eurocell, who operate a trade branch in Cardiff, which means materials are available quickly and locally rather than on extended lead times. We handle all sourcing, delivery and installation as a complete service.

The entire installation — panels, posts, gravel boards and capping rails — was completed as part of a full garden project alongside new paving, keeping everything under one contractor and one invoice for the customer.

Eco Composite Fencing

The entry level composite fencing known at the eco composite fencing range provides a great way to move away from wood and install a low maintenance long lasting composite fence.

One of the excellent factors about eco composite fencing is that it's width allows it to to be fitted straight into existing concrete posts without the need for a special channel which add to the total cost of installation for other composite boards.

Emost all composite boards come in 6ft lengths and will be either 6" or 12" high. In the case of the eco fence panels these are 12" high, so a 6ft fence needs 6 panels stacked on top of each other. The height of the fence needs to go up in 12"increments as the boards are not designed to be cut horizontally.

The eco composite fence panels com ing a grey, walnut brown and a natural colour. What also needs to be taken into consideration for most composite fence panels is that there will be a level of lightening in colour before a final stable uniform colour is achieved. This is normally around 10-15% lighter than when first installed. This is most noticable on the natural colour but once stabilised it provides a good lighter background which works exceptionally well to provide a more traditional background for plants and scrubs to stand out from.

Composite Fencing for Concrete Posts

One of the most cost effective ways to have compopsite fencing in your garden is to install composite fence panels into existing concrete posts. Whilst only a few composite fence panels will slot straight into an existing composite post many of the composite panel manufacturers have started to include a 'adapter strip' than can be slotted into the channels of existing concrete posts which in tern then hold the narrower composite panels in place. From th eperspective of the composite manufacturer whilst they would love yuo to choose their complete system to include their posts which will either generally be either a composite surround of a steel tube of a full aluminium post they are realising that it is better to at least sell their panels rather than sell nothing at all. If you are having a long stretch of fencing then having mathcing composite posts rather than concrete posts will make a significant difference on the total price of your fence.

However, if you have a budget an your priority is to have a low maintenance composite fence then installing composite panels in to existing concrete - or even new concrete posts will the most cost effective option.

Premium Composite Garden Fencing

Our premium composite fencing options whilst coming with perfectly compatible posts offers more in terms of aesthetics compared to the entry level eco fence panels. Depending on the option you go for ther will be some embossed composite panels which are grooved to give the look and feel of a grained wood. The other option is to go for a smoother textured finish which looks very neat and modern and would fit a contemporary modern garden design. As part of a wider landscaping project composite fencing can provide an exceptionally good background from which other landscaping features will stand out out well.

Will premium composite fence panels there is generally a more limited choice of colours. With almost every manufacturer there will be a grey of some sort, a charcoal/black option and sometime a shade of brown.

White fencing such as picked fencing will often be UPVC rather than composite, which can look excellent in the right context and surroundings.

Need Help?

FREQUENTLY ASKED COMPOSITE FENCING QUESTIONS:

  • What is the most popular composite fencing?

Currently, grey composite fencing is the most popular in terms of colour. Often dark grey more specifically, with charcoal black becoming a popular choice.

As different composite manufacturers provide slightly different colour options other shades of brown are selected but much less popular than grey or black.

As budget is naturally a determining factor eco fencing is popular when a good standard of existing concrete posts is in place. Where budget allows most people will choose the premium range where the composite panels have an embossed wood effect and therefore look much less 'plastic'.

  • What's the difference between composite and UPVC fencing?

The difference is quite subtle and in most cases only a few percent difference in compositions. Composite as the name implies is composed of more than one material. Most composites only use 2 main materials: plastic and wood. The wood will only be a few percent of the total and is essentially very small wood chippings, almost dust which is added to the UPVC in the manufacturing process. Since a pure plastic or UPVC fence panel is only made up with UPVC it will commonly be referred to as plastic fencing although the reality is that they are very very similar. Both will often be made using recycled plastic and wood respectively and since they will last a lot longer once installed, there is a good argument regarding total environmental benefits since you won't use repeated resources replacing them a much as you would for a wooden equivalent.

  • How do I clean composite fencing?

If you do see dirt and bird droppings accumulate on your composite fencing this can easily be removed with a gentle jet wash but this should be on a low setting.

If you don't have a pressure washer simply cleaning with soapy water and a sponge should do the trick as dirt does not attach to composite and UPC in the same way that it does to wood so maintenance and cleaning is quick and easy.

  • Why choose J&Z Fencing Cardiff to install my composite fencing?

  • How much does composite fencing cost in Cardiff?

Composite fencing costs depend on the panel height, post system, linear metres required and whether gravel boards or capping rails are included. As a guide, supply and installation typically starts from around £140 per metre for a standard composite panel with aluminium posts. A full garden boundary of approximately 20 metres would typically start from around £3,400 supply and fit. We always visit and provide a written, itemised quote before any work begins — no hidden extras.

  • How long does composite fencing last?

Quality composite fencing from an established manufacturer will typically last 20 to 25 years with minimal maintenance. The panels won't rot, warp, splinter or need treating — an occasional brush down to remove any surface dirt or algae is all that's required. The aluminium post systems we use are designed to the same lifespan. We source from established suppliers including Eurocell, who back their composite products with long-term guarantees.

  • Can composite fencing be fitted to my existing concrete posts?

In many cases yes — some composite panel ranges are designed to fit directly into standard concrete post channels without replacement posts. We assess your existing posts at the site visit and advise honestly on whether re-use is a practical option or whether new aluminium posts would give you a better installation. There is no obligation and no charge for the site visit.
