How our prices work
What Our Prices Include
Every price on this page is a starting price for supply and fit, based on a straightforward job with good access. Fencing is priced per metre, so you can work out a rough budget from the length of your boundary.
- Materials supplied and fitted
- Post holes dug and posts set
- Your old fence taken down and removed
- No minimum charge
- Free site visit
- Written quote before work starts
We still visit before we quote, because the ground, the access and the state of the old fence all make a difference. Once we have seen the job, you get a written price before any work starts.
Timber fencing
Featheredge and Picket Fencing Prices
Featheredge is the most popular garden fence we fit in Cardiff. The price depends mainly on the height and on what holds it up: timber posts are the cheapest to start with, while Duraposts and concrete posts with concrete gravel boards cost more but won't rot.
Where a boundary wall is already there, featheredge can be fixed straight onto the wall with no posts, which brings the price down. See our garden fencing page for the styles we fit.
- 6ft featheredge, timber posts
- From £95 per metre
- 6ft featheredge fixed to a wall, no posts
- From £80 per metre
- 3–4ft featheredge, timber posts
- From £75 per metre
- 3–4ft featheredge fixed to a wall
- From £60 per metre
- 3–4ft picket fencing, posts dug in
- From £75 per metre
- Featheredge on Duraposts, with capping
- From £125 per metre
- Featheredge on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards
- From £150 per metre
Per metre, supplied and fitted. Duraposts come with a 25-year guarantee from the manufacturer.
Composite fencing
Composite Fencing Prices
Composite fencing costs more to put up than timber, but it never needs treating and won't rot, warp or split. Prices depend mostly on the range of panel you choose.
See our composite fencing page for colours, post systems and the ranges we fit.
- Entry-level composite, 6ft
- From £200 per metre
- Mid to high-end composite, 6ft
- From £250 per metre
- Example: 20m boundary, entry-level
- From £4,000
Per metre, supplied and fitted.
Gates
Garden and Driveway Gate Prices
Wooden gate prices vary with size and design, so the wooden prices here are for our basic featheredge gate. Heavier ledged and braced designs, and wider driveway gates, cost more.
See our garden gates and driveway gates pages for the designs we make and fit.
- Featheredge single gate
- From £350
- Featheredge double gates
- From £900
- Composite single gate
- From £950
- Composite double gates
- From £2,000
- Metal or wrought iron driveway gates

Supplied and fitted. Featheredge gate prices are for a gate hung between existing walls.

Things that change the price
What Can Make a Job Cost More
Most of our jobs come in close to these prices. A few things can add to the cost, and we will always tell you about them when we quote:
- Difficult access, such as carrying everything through the house
- Concrete, tree roots or rubble where the posts go
- Sloping ground that needs stepped panels
- Taller fences or premium panel styles
- Trellis, capping or decorative tops
- Work from the neighbour's side of a shared boundary

FAQs
Fencing Price Questions
How much does a new fence cost per metre in Cardiff?
With J&Z, 6ft featheredge fencing on timber posts starts from £95 per metre supplied and fitted. On Duraposts with capping it starts from £125 per metre, on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards from £150 per metre, and 6ft composite fencing from £200 per metre.
Is taking away my old fence included?
Yes. Our per-metre fencing prices include taking down and removing your old fence, as well as digging the post holes for the new one.
Is there a minimum charge?
No. There is no minimum charge, so a few metres of fencing or a single gate is priced on its own merits.
Which posts are best value over time?
Timber posts are the cheapest to start with, but they eventually rot at ground level. Duraposts are galvanised steel, come with a 25-year guarantee from the manufacturer and are often capped for a neat finish. Concrete posts with concrete gravel boards cost the most, but there is no timber in the ground to rot, and a damaged panel can be lifted out and replaced on its own.
How much does a garden gate cost?
A featheredge single gate hung between existing walls starts from £350, and a pair of featheredge double gates from £900. Composite gates start from £950 for a single gate and £2,000 for a double. Larger or heavier wooden designs cost more.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. We visit, measure up and give you a written quote free of charge. You can also send photos and rough measurements through our contact form for a provisional price first.
